I need to install rather thick filters (6mm) onto the fs8s-stxl filter wheel (http://diffractionlimited.com/product/fw8s-stxl/). Do people have experience installing thick filters on that filter wheel? What are the allowed ranges of filter thicknesses? Thanks!
The normal filters used in these wheels are 3 mm thick. Looking at the design model, it appears there is only about 6.85 mm between the base of the carousel and the drive belt. The screws and plastic shoulder washers used to hold the filters in place would not work. If you substituted something tall enough to hold the filters it might catch on the drive belt. It might work if you were to RTV the filters into the carousel, so there is no added height. No need to RTV the entire diameter of the filter; a bead in three places would do the job.
