We strongly recommend updating your SBIG Driver Checker prior to firmware updates. Using the update feature within the driver checker does not do this. You need to install and download the latest version of SBIG Driver Checker itself.

The reason for this is we've added some code to prevent Windows from showing the application as "Not Responding" during firmware installation. Occasionally people have been known to kill the application when this happens, resulting in a bricked camera.

    Here is the procedure:
    1. Download the latest version of the SBIG Driver Checker:

    ftp://ftp.sbig.com/pub/SetupDriverChecker64.exe

    2. Install it by double-clicking on the installer file you just downloaded

    3. Run SBIG Driver Checker

    4. Click Download and then Update, to make sure your drivers are up-to-date

    5. Click Firmware tab at upper left

    6. Follow the instructions. Do not under any circumstances abort the program. The firmware upgrade process must run to completion, or your camera will be "bricked", and will have to be returned for service.
