When taking flats I've been told the best ADU value for the flats are around 20,000, I've also heard 30,000. Recently I was told I should shoot for an ADU value of 40,000.

Is there a 'BEST' ADU value for the STF8300 to shoot for?

I don't know that there is a "best". What you want is:
    1. Enough signal that the flat is not noisy
    2. Not so much signal that you're approaching saturation, so it stays nice and linear
I'd definitely recommend staying below 50,000, but I'd suggest more than 30,000.

I love that answer :). I've been shooting for 40,000 but after processing the flats they well come out between 37K and 39K so I'll leave it at that.

Thanks for your response, it does help.
