    Hi Bill
I could really use your help.
I have installed the demo version of Maxim DL on my HP Omen (core i7, windows 10, 17" 4k display).
I have installed Nikon Camera control here.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Nikon\Camera Control Modules

I believe it is the 64bit version because it originally ended up in Program Files not Program Files (x86) and I copied it to the Program Files (x86) folder. If I need to get the 32 bit version, then I am not sure how to find or get it. So I would need your help.
For reference Backyard Nikon has no problem communicating with my D5300

Does "Nikon Camera Control 2" software still work after you "moved" it? Typically you can not simply move installed programs.

Does it work if you leave the "Nikon DLLs" menu item set to "Default"?

    Hi Tim,
Nikon Camera control 2 does not work. Nikon camera control pro 2 works from the desk top icon.
The default setting yields an error message similar to the Nikon DLL setting.

Can you walk me through what I need to do to get my D5300 connected? That might be easiest, or send me the drivers.
I am burning demo license time and I have not even been able to connect my camera. This should be fairly straight forward right?????

    Thanks
    Gene

Have you tried removing, then reinstalling the Nikon Camera Control 2 software?

Did you install Camera Control 2 from a DVD or did you download the latest version from the Nikon website?

If you can connect to the camera from Windows, without using MaxIm DL, then you should have the drivers installed correctly for use with MaxIm DL. Are you able to connect the camera and use Windows explorer to browse the files stored on the camera?

We do not have specific drivers for cameras we do not manufacture....drivers are supplied by Nikon directly assuming Windows does not find and install them automatically.

    Hi Tim,
I downloaded from the Nikon website. Camera Control 2 Pro connected fine with the D5300 via windows 10
Given the nature of the problems I encountering between my D5300 and Maxim DL I uninstalled the Camera Camera 2 and camera control 2 pro.
What version should I now install and how best to proceed from there?

    Thanks,
    Gene

Can you connect to the camera using *Windows Explorer*, and *NOT* using the Nikon software?

I am not sure how to go about trying this but I did click on the D5300 icon shown below and nothing happened. Not sure what was expected to happen

Any chance I could get you to walk me through the process on connecting my D5300 to Maxim DL? I am sure fairly straight forward, but this back and forth forum type of customer support is very inefficient for resolving this issue. If I were to buy the pro version right now would it be possible to get better customer support?
    Thanks,
    Gene

It looks as though Nikon has merged their 32 and 64 bit installers, and since you have a 64 bit system, it is installing the wrong DLL files for a 32 bit program like MaxIm DL.

As a workaround you can do the following. First start by uninstalling the existing Camera Control Pro 2 software:

1.) Download the latest Nikon camera control software:

    http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/download/sw/93.html

2.) For the next step you will need a zip utility program such as Winzip, 7-zip or something similar. Next you must extract the contents of the install file you downloaded in step 1. Usually you can right-click on the install file you downloaded in step 1, and select "Extract..." from the context menu.

3.) Once the installer file is extracted, you will have several folders, and one of them is called "Camera Control Pro 2". Open that folder, and inside is 2 more folders..."32-bit", and "64-bit". Open the 32-bit folder, and run the installer.

Not sure we are out of the woods yet.
Followed your instructions and for whatever reason there is no option to do an extraction
