I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this odd black artifact in one of their light frames. I purchased this camera used (ST-2000XM) from OPT and it tested out fine for me on the bench until I took it out for an actual imaging session. I had to crop down my images. I am not seeing this in my bias, dark or flat frames only my separate LRBG frames. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Les

    Hi Les,

I did get your private email as well.

It looks like trees or frost on the CCD.
Here is a crop of what you sent me.

If you purchased a used camera the first thing to do is back out the desiccant plug to make sure the chamber is moisture free.
Call anytime if you need help.

It's also fine to send me images by private email.

    Cheers
    Tim

LOL Tim jumped in just as I was answering. Yes, the desiccant needs to be baked. The procedure is in the camera manual. Don't forget to remove the O-Ring before you bake, and to put it back on afterwards.

    Hi Gentlemen,
I haven't been on the forum in a while. I'm just confirming for anyone else that baking out the cartridge definitely solves the problem.
    Thanks,
    Les
