    Hello,

my ST-8E connected via parallel cable to a Windows XP computer without problems (software: MaxImDL5.12).

Now switching to Win7 64-bit system and trying to connect MaxImDL5.12 fails to connect (parallel port LPT1).
The error message is "Error opening camera / Could not initialize CCD camera (27)".

I have used SetupDriverChecker64_3R11B4 to update the drivers but I suppose that I got incompatible drivers.
    What can I do?

Those are the correct drivers. Error 27 suggests that they were not installed correctly. That's probably because the old drivers don't know about the modern UAC protection features.

Please uninstall and then re-install, but this time right-click on the installer and select Run As Administrator.

Oh, it's a 64-bit system. Right, I think you could only make this work on a 32-bit system.

Ok, thank you both so far for your answers!

If I understand you right, there is no way making it work on Win7 64-bit system?
So... I have to re-install my old Windows XP ???

There may be a workaround if you don't mind playing with your Windows 7 64 bit installation, but first make sure you have the system backed up to a recovery disk in case you have problems and need to revert back.

We used old medical devices that were parallel port only with Win 7 64bit PRO by using a freeware inpout32 driver and this allowed them to function normally.

I won't try to explain how to install the driver here, it is rather complex but you can read about installing the driver (on a medical EEG recorder system) in the Google Groups here:
    https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/psychopy-users/hbIO2wHK1KU
and the driver can be downloaded as freeware here:
    http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/inpout32/

I can't say whether this will allow the parallel port SBIG camera to work but it may be worth your trying if you have nothing to lose.
If you do try this and it is successful let us know as it may help other users of older parallel port cameras with Win 7 64bit systems.

    William.

William, thank you for the links...

I decided to do the next steps now...
    1) after I tried to update the drivers for my I/O-card without sucess (they were up to date btw)
    2) ... I will try the inpout32 driver next (as described in your links)
    3) ... if this does not work I will install a Win7 32-bit OS, where the parallel port hopefully still works
    4) ... and if this does not... Win XP

I will let everybody here know about the result ... but if somebody knows about a better way meanwhile ... please give me notice

    Update...

    Following ad 2) :
installing the inpout32 drivers described in the links above ...
the driver install with the downloaded (included in the zip-file) "InstallDriver.exe was successful (according to the message),
but NO result on connection to the camera ... :(

...will now proceed to step 3)

    New update:

    today I proceeded to step 3) ... install a Win7 32-bit OS

...and IT WORKED with my ST-8, but only with an old driver:
    SBIGUDrv.dll version 4.7.4.7 (from 2012)

BTW: this driver definitely did not work on the 64-bit OS! (have tested it)

Now I am experimenting still with another Win7 64-bit OS installation
as I found a thread in this forum where somebody encouarged to use a newer driver:
SBIGUDrv.dll version 4.9.2.0 (from 2016) but it failed on my 64-bit system to connect my parallel-port ST-8.

Maybe some driver "in between" may succeed? (versions 4.8.X.X...)
    Where can I download those?

    CS!

    another update:

also sbigudrv.dll version 4.8.8.4 does NOT work for my parallel port camera ST-8 on Win7 PRO 64-bit OS.

last update: meanwhile I also tested the virtual XP machine on Win7 PRO 64-bit. No chance... it does not work either.

At the end I have to stick to Win7 PRO 32-bit version, which does all I want.

Right... it may be possible to get it to work somehow, but we recommend running 32-bit.
