Hello Richard! I have the same situation here. I'm trying to connect my stf 8300 and nothing happens. Could you please show me what componect was fried ? Thanks in advance Angelos
Please don't jump to conclusions; there are many different reasons for a failure to connect. The odds of you having the same problem are small. I'm going to split this into a separate thread.
Do you have the SBIGDriverChecker64 software installed and is it up to date? Is the power adapter the one provided with the camera? Is the power connector secure? Is the LED lit on the back of the camera? Is the fan running on the back of the camera? Is the camera listed in the Windows Device Manager?
Hello guys thanks for your replies. to Tim.. 1.Yes i have it updated 2.Yes 3.Yes it works fine 4.Yes 5.Yes 6.You can see the "usb device not recognized message" I'm trying to retrieve firmware info from the camera through sbig driver checker with no luck (no connection at all). Any thoughts ?
Well...the USB appears to be enumerated by the PC, although it fails. Have you tried manually selecting the USB driver for the camera? 1.) In the Device Manager, select the USB device that is failing...assuming it is actually the camera. 2.) Right click on it and select "Update Driver" 3.) Select "Browse my computer for driver software" 4.) Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" 5.) Find the "SBIG" entry and select "SBIG USB-64 Camera with Firmware".
Hello Tim and thank you for your reply. Yes i have already done that but with no luck. I can't find any sbig entry as you mentioning. I have already send an e-mail to Bill hope he find a solutuon on my problem.
Do you get a "bong bing" sound when you plug in the USB connection to the camera? And a corresponding "bing bong" when you unplug the USB?
Bill will very likely be able to help if it is a hardware issue, but based on the symptoms, it sounds PC related, unless the firmware is corrupted. However, if the firmware corrupted, more often than not, the only symptom is the camera is completely dead. Do you have another PC you could test with?
To Colin.. Yes but only in usb 3 port on my computer. To Tim.. No i have already try another pc,cables, power supply and etc with no luck. I have also found that my new 2 month tp-link powered hub also burned. So i deside to open the camera and i have locate a burned smd fuse on usb circuit. Now i'm in Bill's hands .
You might want to try another USB device like a mouse or keyboard in the USB ports on the computer, to check if the ports are damaged.
As i mention above i already try all possible combination with different computers, cables and etc. Thanks anyway for your help but it seems it's more complicated electronic problem than the usual failures we seen on this forum. I have already contact with Bill and waiting his reply.
I have replace the main usb ic chip and also some ferrites and capacitors on the usb circuit of the camera and all working fine again. Thanks all for your help. best regards Angelos Kechagias
