As we are anticipating a new AC4040 ultimate package within a few days I was looking for the actual assembly of the guider/AO/filter wheel and so on. I have the manual downloaded and glancing through it I see nothing that indicates how to mount these components. Suggestions?

Filter wheel installs first, on top of the camera. Installation guide is in the user manual:

StarChaser guider installs next, on top of the wheel. Installation guide is in the user manual:

Finally, the AO-X. User guide is a bit dated but nothing has really changed, except that it's mounting on top of the StarChaser its longer bolts:

OK, maybe too quick on this.....I went to the individual parts and pieces to download the manuals so i now have these. Is there a picture, worth a thousand words they say, of an assembled unit with the filter wheel, guider, and AO unit installed or maybe a diagram? Is the AO dedicated to one fixed mounting position or are there several possibilities? Just trying to create a reliable FOVi for this camera to start with for use in TSX. None of the newer cameras seem to be in their database. I've created a basic FOVi using the camera specs but that doesn't include a guider FOVi and I have no offset unless that's noted in the manual. Hope this makes sense.....

You're fast Doug, thanks. I have downloaded the manuals but have yet read them. Camera is expected to ship on 1/28 (David W) so trying to get a bit of a head start on what is needed in what order.

The FOV of the main chip is the same as an STX camera, because it's the same size.

The guide chip isn't fixed in relation to the main chip, because it's adjustable. My usual process is to point the telescope at the moon to figure out approximately where it is. Easier to find that way! You may also be able to use a plate solve, though it can be hard to get enough stars for that depending on your focal length.

I think @Colin Haig might have a photo of the full stack?

Thanks Doug. I had seen the correlation of sizes between the two cameras and David has the STX16803 camera mounted now. So that makes that easy. The guider is 90 degrees rotated in the FOVi I had created for that setup. The new camera replaces that camera so it sounds like I just need to see what it's position is in relation to the existing one.

Reading over some of the manuals it says not to ship the filter wheel with the filters installed so I guess we can assemble the camera/FW/AO/Guider as a single unit packed to protect it all and have the filters installed when it arrives at SRO. Is that correct? For the time being the new camera will operate on the 12.5" RC but may be later this year used on a new 24" f/7 RC.

I did a quick CAD version of a full stack. Note that the StarChaser and AO-X can each potentially be mounted in four different orientations.

We do recommend against shipping the filters in the wheel, just for safety's sake.

That said it's not uncommon for people to ship us wheels with filters in them, and generally speaking nothing bad happens. Not going to guarantee that though!
