About 6 weeks ago, I replaced my SC3 with a new SC4. It installed well and bench tested fine. It imaged ok and the AO X also tested ok.

Six weeks we got our first break in the clouds and I set up the gear. The SC4 no longer connects when powered. I know that electric power makes it to the unit because the AO X red light comes on. Camera1, an AC4040 is normal in all aspects. I have run Setup DLAPI many times.

If I attempt to connect camera 2 an error message tells me that " camera serial number SC1300M... cannot be
found. That is the old SC3. That sounds like it is not looking for the new SC4.

What am I missing here? Thanks.

I think what may have happened is it maybe hasn't selected the replacement camera, and is retaining the serial number of the old one.

    Check this:
    Camera Control
    Setup Tab
    Camera 2 - [Camera Setup]
    On the next screen, [Advanced...]
Then when you see the list, there should be the AC4040 and the new SC camera.
If you see it, then double click on it to make it active, and click OK on each screen until you are back at the Camera Control screen.

If you don't see it in the list, then check the Device Manager to see if you have SBIG Camera A and SBIG Camera B listed (the two halves of the SC).

Hi Colin, thanks for the reply.
Camera Control > Setup tab > Canera 2 > Advanced shows onlt one camers - AC 4040.

Device Manager > USB controlers has one entry - "SBIG Camera" . The driver is FTDI 1.3.0.4. Underneath that listing is a flagged entry " Unknowm USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

Occasionally a Windows Explorer warning box appears - " USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it".

I tried substituting a SC3 into the same wiring harness and it functioned normally. I also bypassed the Icron Ranger and cabled directly to a PC port. No help.

My power supply is a household surge supressor and a SBIG supplied 12V 6A unit and I have swapped the new and old power supplies. No help.

Where should the SC3 driver be located in C: ?
I am not aware of any hot plugging incidents and have checked wiring for intermittand connections. My next experiment may be to replace the surge protector and mount power supplies with spares in my junk box.

This error means a USB device is not working properly, and it sounds like it is either the SC4, or a port/hub/extender that is the problem.

Did you try a short cable (6 feet/2m or less) from the SC-4 directly to the back of the PC, and see if it is recognized?

If that doesn't work, my colleague @Tim will want you to send it in for warranty repair/replacement.

The SC-3 and SC-4 use the same hardware drivers, so if the SC-3 is seen, the SC-4 would also be seen.
If you want to try installing the SC-4 on a different computer, the driver is on the silver memory stick that came with the unit.
Windows will also try to install the driver automatically, although this doesnt always work.
