The last few nights my images seem much noisier than usual and am unsure why Have given an example of two here : https://www.dropbox.com/s/z5rp0l4ik...97 Green-S001-001009-W_Green_B1_900S.fts?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/22sswg9sfb4k0h9/IC 434-IC 434-S001-012410-W_SII_B1_900S.fts?dl=0 seems to be much more noisy than usual. Cooling -25 degrees as I usually do. Using STC 16803 and MaxIm 6.18 with ACP No dithering- maybe I should start dithering ? Never done it before Pete
Hi Doug This was one a few days prior: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h60sc8w1c6nvaa5/NGC 104-S001-R001-C002-014211-E-Green-B1-600S.fts?dl=0 here is a recent Dark Frame from a few weeks ago: https://www.dropbox.com/s/776aaz5e7prparc/DarkFrame-0002D900.fit?dl=0
Here are two darks and one bias I just took now: 120s Dark: https://www.dropbox.com/s/z5c73fu6ytild8m/DarkTest_1_120s.fit?dl=0 10s Dark https://www.dropbox.com/s/dimsosj4bspluxg/DarkTest_2_10s.fit?dl=0 Bias: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6h37fot395z259h/BiasTest_1.fit?dl=0 Something has really changed in the images, unsure what or why Peter
This is a luminance from last night which is better. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7won92ans...ance-S001-002759-W_Luminance_B1_900S.fts?dl=0 Maybe it is all normal and I have forgotten !
Peter - your NGC1097 will be gorgeous with some more signal ;-) Those darn filters sure block the photons. DarkFrame-0002D900 - whoa ! looks like a whole lot of radiation (possibly cosmic rays) hit that frame. Did you leave the spare plutonium in the observatory again? ;-) A few hits on the 120s as well. I'll let Doug weigh in on the noise.
Haha yes they do Colin, need more signal, and stopped being radiated. I am now doubting any issue besides the fact I haven't stacked them yet and yes, just lack of signal. They were 900s subs so thought from previously they were less noisy than that. Anyway, will be good to know that there is no mechanical problem going on
I don't see any obvious problem here. There isn't a good apples-to-apples comparison here (e.g. same exposure time), but with appropriate scaling it looks like the hot pixels are behaving consistently. Cosmic ray hits can be removed using appropriate SD Mask combining.
Okay thanks for checking Doug . Maybe it’s the particular objects and also particular narrowband filters .
