I find the idea of an integrated filterwheel to be extremely appealing, for a whole series of reasons, in terms of its potential for reducing backfocus consumption, reducing the degrees of freedom for tilt issues to appear, eliminating cables, etc. Is this a one-time implementation with the STC-7 or something that is being considered for additional future models?
Hi Mark, The integrated filter wheel makes a lot of sense for many people. The STC-7 is a big hit because it includes the filter wheel, standard astrophotography filters, and it's all in a tidy package that's affordable. The good old STL-series cameras also had an integrated filter wheel, it was 5-slots, and was also very popular. In the case of large sensor science cameras, it doesn't always make sense - so we've engineered some new, thinner and faster 10 and 12-slot filter wheels you'll see announced really soon. Is there something you have in mind? We're very open minded.
Well, since you asked! The dream would be a DL IMX455-based camera with an integrated filter wheel that accommodates 2" square filters, and that has either 7 slots (if the camera has a shutter) or 8 slots (for a blank to do darks) if the camera has no shutter.
