The SBIG provided cable for connecting a SC-3 to an AO-X has a female DN connector which can only connect to the AO-X I2C output port. Since the SC-3 sensor drives the AO-X and not vice versa it would seem that the connection should be a male connector to the SO-X I2C input port. Please see attached picture which shows AO-X labeling. Has SBIG inadvertently shipped me the wrong cable? I don't want to find out by trial and error lest SC3 and AO-X electronics are somehow damaged.

    Thanks for the help,
    Evert Cooper

This is not a serial port interface. It is an I2C interface, which works via a shared bus.

The two connectors are wired in parallel internally to the AO-X. It doesn't matter which one you connect to.
