I'm trying to connect a CFW-8 filter wheel to a ST-8300M, but the I2C port on the ST-8300M is male and so is the cable from the CFW-8. Can I just use a female-female RS232 coupler to connect the two together? Thanks.

It might work (with an adapter) if you identify it as a CFW-9 in the FW Setup, I'm not sure though.

Thanks Bill, but will that be a special adapter or a simple (straight-through) female-female RS232 adapter? Thanks.

I've never tried it. I would think straight through. The CFW-8 and CFW-9 are pretty similar except the 8 runs out of the serial port and the 9 from the I2C. I don't honestly know if it will work or not. You could also identify it as a FW5-8300. If it works when identified as a CFW-9, it should also work when identified as the FW5-8300. Good luck!

Thanks Bill, I'll try it out and report back what I find, hope it won't fry any circuits! :)
