Is there a driver for SBIG AOX unit ? I am going to be using it with SC3, so is there 2 separate drivers in this case , if yes, where are they? thanks, Alex
No, the DL Imaging drivers are used to control the AO-X through the StarChaser, with AO on Sensor 1. In MaxIm, normally you would set Camera 2 (guider) to be DL Imaging, and select the SC, and pick AO on Sensor 1.
OK so just to clarify in my set up, I have FLI camera connected to SBIG SC3 unit connected to SBIG AOX (I have all the correct cables) and in maximDL I know you can select two sensors/cameras , one imaging and additional as a guider, but it looks like I have to have three sensors selection now one for FLI, one for SC3 and one for AOX. I’m a little confused regarding those selections I think I can only select two in DL…?
Camera 1 will be the FLI. Camera 2 will be DL Imaging. AO is on Sensor 1 of Camera 2. There is only 1 image sensor in the SC-3. Some of our cameras are dual sensor, with a main sensor 1 and a guide sensor 2.
Thank you for your responses! Another question, in order to connect SC3 to AOX an adaptor cable is required . DL website lists it here (https://diffractionlimited.com/product/starchaser-ao-xao-8t-adapter-cable/) and indicates that "The 11066 adapter cable has a DE9 plug with male pins compatable with AOX I 2C IN port and this is the cable that I have found in the box with SC3. However, SC3 instruction manual says the following: "Connect the Adaptor Cable (11044) between the AO-X unit’s I 2C OUT port and the StarChaser SC-3 AUX port" which means this cable needs to have DB9 female connection to match AOX OUT port....so this is confusing which port does SC3 go to ? if its OUT then I have to buy a gender changer in this case....I can't find any DB9 female to MINI DIN 9Pin male cables....could you please clarify where does SC3 connect to AOX is it IN or OUT? Thank you so I got it connected but now I’m having a different issue: I’m not seeing an option to select AOX in the camera 2 set up window (Maxim Dl 5.10 ) Please see screenshots and let me know if I’m missing anything I have updated and downloaded all required drivers, but there is no DL imaging camera 2 in the drop down menu under camera 2 setup, screenshot attached… any suggestions ? I’m not really clear how do I select AOX under this configuration…since I’m not seeing DL imaging camera 2 from a drop-down menu , it’s only when I go to ASCOM and select advanced options and then I can see DL imaging camera 2 , but then I do not see AOX available. See both screenshots . Thank you!
That's not solvable with what you have. The ASCOM Standards do not have a definition for AO. ASCOM does support cameras and filterwheels; but the Standards group hasn't produced a standard for AO (it's too specific and hard to generalize). So using old MaxIm 5.10 from 15+ years ago will get you the ability to run the SC camera, but not the AO. MaxIm 5.10 is from 15+ years ago; it is not able to support all current hardware eg it does not have DL Imaging drivers. What's your MaxIm serial number? (Help... About). I can see if there is an upgrade discount for you. MaxIm 6.50 or 7.1.4 allows you to set up Camera 2 = DL Imaging for the SC + AO on the SC's Sensor 1.
oh OK that explains it! Alternatively I can see an option to connect through PHD2, but that requires an INDI driver...not sure how that works...do you have any advice or can I post it as a separate topic here among AO-X users?
