In order to save cables that drag on the back of my scope, I was thinking of running my STX16803 and my SC-3 from the same 12 volt, 15 Amp power supply. Can I use a switching power supply for this?

    Yes.

If you are doing custom wiring, just make very sure to wire the polarity correctly. I strongly recommend testing the power connections with everything else disconnected from the camera - that way if it's backwards you don't risk shorting 12V to ground through the camera chassis. It is especially important to unplug the USB cable.

The existing power supply for the STX16803 is rated at 10 Amps and 12 volts. The SC-3 PS is also 12 volts but only 2-3 Amps. Do I really need such a high current source as 15 Amps, 12 volts?
Does the Peltier cooler in the STX actually draw 10 Amps?

Just jumping in here - Keep in mind the power pack "budget" for the STX includes the camera, and the attachable accessories such as:
    • an FW7-STX filter wheel OR or one or two AFW-10-50SQ filter wheels
    • STX guider
    • AO-X

The "budget" for the SC also includes an optional AO-X.

So there's maybe 2A of headroom in the 10A figure.
