    Hello all,

I was wondering if any one else has run into this issue before. I was checking that I could connect to the filter wheel that is attached to my STT-8300 CCD, and I can read the camera fine, but when I try to select a filter, CCD Ops throws a CFW Busy Error. I took the advice of some of the other posts related to this, and I tried it on a different computer (windows 7) which from what I understand, had previously worked with the setup. I am worried it might be an internal hardware issue, specifically a serial cable issue. If anyone could provide some insight, I would really appreciate it.

    Best,

The best thing to check is whether the filter wheel homes at power-on. Likely you will need to take the camera package off the scope, and have a look down the nose to see what is happening with the filter carousel.
It's not a serial cable. It's an I2C Auxiliary cable, just uses the same kind of connector. Don't connect/disconnect it with the power on, or you can damage the port in the camera and/or filter wheel.
If you open the filter wheel, you should see the motor move the carousel. With power off, you could manually rotate the carousel a bit, and it should turn smoothly. Then when you power on, it will find the home position (first filter slot).
If it doesn't do that, it will need to come in for repair.

Thanks for your response. It seems like the filter wheel does not home at power on. Is the repair something I would be able to do, or it is difficult to diagnose exactly which part is causing the issue. I suspect that at some point, somebody connected/disconnected to Ic2 with power on. I have the tools to solder a new port on, but I understand that you would probably not recommend that I try and fix it myself.

I've asked my colleague @Tim to assist, as he handles repairs.

Was the filter wheel working then stopped working, or is this a new setup?

Does the filter wheel move at all, even if it doesn't 'home'?

If you power up the camera with filter wheel connected, and connect to CCDOps, select "Filter" > "Filter Setup...", does it correctly find the filter wheel model automatically?

Unfortunately, this model has been discontinued many years ago, and we no longer have parts available. The cable could be potentially be replaced, but there is no guarantee that is the cause of the issues.
