I do not expect any tech support on this issue. If it is possible that would be great but it seems the problem might involve things beyond what this forum supports. If there is a response, I will not be able to see it until Wednesday evening. My main computer (not for the observatory) is a Dell XPS 8940 with Win 10 Pro. Yesterday, just to see if it would work, I installed CCDOPS using the install program from Diffraction Limited’s web site, and ran the setup and Driver Checker. I launched CCDOPS and it came up with no errors. I plugged the ST-i camera into it and to my surprise CCDOPS established a connection with it. The odd thing is that “SBIG USB-64 Camera with Firmware” does not show up in Device Manager and there is no USB Controller that has a name indicating it is a SBIG controller. If you do not believe me, I would be happy to have Colin, or anyone else, remotely connect with my computer to verify this. I have nothing to hide (not into child pornography, politics, or anything like that). Because of this I thought I could can my idea of getting a refurbished Win 7 machine (this is the reason for my other post where I had questions about Maxim LT). I have an almost new i3 Dell Inspiron 3668 desktop I bought from Best Buy maybe as long as seven years ago. It has a Win 10 Pro operating system. I could use this for the observatory. I installed CCDOPS and ran the setup and Driver Checker, but the OS cannot open CCDOPS. It comes up with a message that says “The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140.dll was not found.” This dll is in the system but maybe in the wrong folder or maybe the OS is looking in the wrong place. So, at this point it looks like I will be buying a refurbished Win 7 Pro machine. Stan
That's easily solved. The computer is missing a Visual C Microsoft Runtime component. You can download the Microsoft Runtime components you need here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170 You will want the x86 version of the Visual C++ 2015-2022 runtime redistributable. You might as well also install the x64 versions, as some newer programs Will require the x64 version. You might need this update to the Microsoft Common Controls: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=10019 Have a great day! BTW CCDOPs will run fine with on the latest Windows 11 if all the components are in place. I tested it last week to be sure.
Thank you Colin. It is 7:05 am in Arizona. I haven't left for my trip yet. I'll hold off getting the win 7 machine and download the things you mentioned when I get back from the trip. Stan
