Would you happen to have the specs on the screws and rubber washers used to secure the filters in the STXL filter wheel? I need to replace the washers and a couple of the screws and I want to be sure I buy the right materials.

I have a combo of 2mm and 3mm thick filters. Can the same screw/washer combo be used for either?

Doug, I think I found some extra screws in my original packaging. Without removing my camera and having to take flats, again, do these look like the McMaster screws?

Doug, is it possible to order replacement screws/shoulder washers plus the O rings directly from DL?

This is an old thread by now, but has anyone found a source for the shoulder washers?

Don’t have a location for you but try Digikey.

They have many hundreds of different sized shoulder washer’s available (use “Shoulder Washer” as the search term on Digikey’s web site will take you there) although you’ll need to measure an existing washer for size unless Doug still has that information available.

Problem with ordering small mechanical parts from bulk suppliers like Digikey is often minimum order quantity and these days with so many people owning or having access to 3D printers it’s often cheaper/faster to print your own or commission somebody else to print something for you.

With many unmounted dichroic filters having poor or non-existent edge blackening it’s sometimes beneficial to print filter edge masks that incorporate the stand-off shoulder washer function into the mask to give a one-piece solution for effective filter masking and mechanical fixing but obviously designing those for 3D printing can be quite a challenge if you’ve no mechanical design experience or suitable measuring tools.

    William.

I bought my FW8G-STXL in 2018, and some of the shoulder washers need to be replaced. I was not able to find anything on the Craftech website under the part number 100-9900-63.

McMaster-Carr's website lists shoulder washers, including ones for No. 4 screws. Which ones are the right size?

That is a Craftech Industries part number, but searching their site didn't bring it up. The part may be obsolete. I don't have a cross for McMaster.

These are for the filter retention? If so, the part is supposed to be plastic.

Yes, they are for filter retention. McMaster has nylon shoulder washers that are listed by height and internal diameter for the sleeve, and internal diameter and outer diameter for the shoulder. If I knew what the dimensions of the originals from Craftech are, I could order the appropriately-sized ones from McMaster.

    https://www.mcmaster.com/products/shoulder-washers/

According to the McMaster website, the 96640A054 screws are 1/4" long, and the head has a diameter of 0.212" and a height of 0.067". They list one shoulder washer that has a sleeve that is 0.250" long, but I don't know if the washer needs to be shorter than the screw, and if it does, what the proper length is.

This is what it looks like:

The shoulder height is 0.05", and its diameter is 0.248".

Do you know how long the sleeve is, or the overall height of both the shoulder and sleeve? The sleeve appears to be a bit longer than the height of the shoulder.

The original part is designed for a flat-head screw; the McMaster part is not. You'll have to figure out for yourself whether that is an issue.

Yes. The McMaster part is not countersunk. I will probably order them anyway, as the cost for 100 is less than it costs for the 200-mile round trip to my observatory and back, which I usually make two or three times a month.

Just make sure they don't hit something. I know it's the taller lid because it's self-guiding, but make sure it clears the guider assembly.
