Dear experts, I own above setup and have a question: When I do a "Locate Star" in AO Window of Maxim DL the shutter of the self guiding filter wheel opens. But also the shutter of the main camera opens and stays open like the self guiding chip shutter. Is this normal ? Please see my software configuration and wiring below. When I take a dark for example the shutter closes and the dark is taken correctly, then the main shutter opens again. Thanks and best regards, Juergen My settings in MaximDL 7.2: Setup Camera: Camera Model = SBIG w/AO. Binning On-Chip. Guide Chip External Remote. Under Camera 1: Dual Chip Mode is checked. Under Camera 1: Options. Advanced both check boxes ON. Under Camera 1:Setup Filter SBIG AO w/FW Set Model = Standard. COM1 Wiring: AO-8T connected to camera Filter wheel plugged into FW8G-STT HDMI cable connected
Are you experiencing a problem with your images? If everything is ok, I would not worry about this. The behaviour can vary with various camera models, camera firmware, and driver versions.
To be honest, I did not yet use the camera productively yet. I just realized when I tested it that the main shutter is open whereas with my SBIG ST-10XME +CFW10+AO-8+Remote Guide head and CCDOPS the main shutter was closed when "locating" a star with the Remote Guide head. I was just wondering if the open main shutter will close before the exposure and after during read out when tracking with AO. I tested this and when I take an image the shutter closes, opens during exposure and closed again. So I hope this will also work later in the field when "tracking" with AO-8 is active. Your comment is very helpful and I am confident everything will work. Once again, thank you for taking care also for these legacy products, this and the quality of your products is really making a difference and is unmatched in my opinion.
I’ve now tested the setup in the field, and the results are outstanding. The camera purrs like a kitten, and I’m really looking forward to long-focal-length imaging of small galaxies.
