As I was stowing the gear (AC 4040, FW7, SC3, and AO X) I heard something rattling around in the FW7. It was a loose screw. Disassembly of all the components, except the AC4040, shed no light on the screw's origin. However, I noticed the AC 4040's shutted was slightly ajar. The shutter is ajar after power-up, closed during and after dark frames, and fully open for light frames. Please see photos. Could this screw have come from a shutter mechanism? If so, is it something I could repair? If, as they say, ignorance is bliss, should I forget about it? Thank you.
Might be one of the screws that holds the shutter vanes. You might want to pop the front lid off the 4040 and have a look.
Sorry that happened - I'll raise it with production. In the meantime... I'll assume you've fixed the problem!
If I recall correctly, there is a plastic tool that comes with the 4040 that can help with aligning the shutter in case the screws came loose in shipping.
Not needed in this case - it's not the set screw that came loose. He just needs to reinstall the screw, tighten both, and done.
Hi Colin , I finally got another clear night and, when taking some dark framec, found light leaking through an almest closed shutter. I have checked for the plastic tool that you mentioned but can't find it. Is that something I can make?
Neil, do you have access to a 3D printer? If so you can print the alignment tool. Let me know and I will send the STL file for printing.
Hi Colin, I found a local 3D printer that will print it. Darn - I really wanted a reason to buy a printer. Thanks
