    Hello,
My AFW-12 filter wheel has stopped working.
    1. It seems to boot and find Home correctly (at least the sounds are the same as when it was working).
    2. The control program (either Maxim DL 6.29 or NINA) successfully sees and connects to the FW.
    3. The process of taking an image freezes with Maxim DL Camera 1 Information stating: "Waiting for Filter Wheel" which goes on forever without any sound (or filter rotation) occurring.
    4. In NINA the FW installs successfully (at least it says so), but no filters are shown under the Filter dropdown, so no filter change is possible.
I am using: Maxima DL 6.29, ASCOM 7.1.3 (although the ASCOM version listed in the Maxim FW setup file is a different #, I have downloaded and installed the Setup-ASCOM.SBIG.USB_FW-1.2.3.0 (1)

    Hi DP2,
When I have an equipment problem, usually I start by asking myself, what changed in my system?
e.g. windows updates, driver updates, new hardware/cables/hubs/extenders.
e.g. power management settings (USB Selective Suspend)

    What cameras are you using?
It could be that the camera drivers are not thread-safe (eg they don't support multi-tasking).
In MaxIm, on the Camera Control window, Setup tab, under the Camera 1 and Camera 2 sections, there are [Options] buttons.
In the options for each, go to the advanced section, and turn off all of the Threading options.
Do this for both Camera 1 and Camera 2 options, for the cameras and filter wheels.
    Like this:

#4 - For NINA, did you set the filter names in the ASCOM Properties of the USB to Filter Wheel adapter? It normally will pull the info from there.

    Hi Colin,
You are correct - it was a USB issue, The FW was communicating enough to be installed but not enough to actually work.
I got it to work by changing the threading settings and reducing the hardware on the FW USB 2.0 extender, (the connection
was still flaky with the 4-hub fully filled). The main camera is a QHY600 on a USB 3.0 extender. Unfortunately, I now have two flaky
USB connections - the QHY connection has always been boot flaky, but once it's up it seems to hold, and now the FW is iffy. I may try
reducing the "USB Speed" in the QHY driver, is there something else that could help the FW USB reliability?

Check this, be thorough, check in detail, for each device in the system, every hub, extender, root hub, device, etc:

Are you using powered hubs or extenders? eg power is provided at the socket end where the camera, USB-to-FW adapter is.
    If not, change them out.
I've had good success with StarTech Industrial hubs, powered off +12V.
Some of the Icron units are good too.
Cascaded extenders rarely work, unless they are powered at each junction.
