yes im having trouble with darks and biases. the darks and biases are saturated and i think the shutter is not working. how can i get this fixed? i took it apart and its not sticking or anything. here is the saturated dark i took today and the 2nd picture is when i took in january. what could be wrong, shutter not working? do i need to call sbig?
I see from the FITS header that it is an STT-8300. What happens if you take a bias exposure (aka 0.01 second dark frame)? Can you see the shutter rotate when you switch between light and dark frames?
Usually when we get nothing from the sensor the firmware defaults it to 0 ADU. So I'm not sure what is happening there, but it sure looks like something has failed in the camera. Unfortunately there is little we can do to repair these cameras as the parts are all obsolete.
i was looking at the SBIG Aluma CCD8300 and had some questions. i got round 36 x 2mm filters. the filter wheel has 3 options and they are compact format 36mm round, 36mm round, and 36mm round 5mm tall. which one do i choose? also i want the SBIG StarChaser SC-4 Off-Axis Guider Camera and its got 4 options. Which one do i choose? Thanks for the fast reply.
It all depends on how many filter slots you want. The compact format AFW-8-36R is the default wheel for Aluma CCD cameras, and it has 8 slots. Usually one slot is used as a dark frame shutter, leaving 7 slots available for filters. Assuming you use the compact wheel, you would need the SC-4C (i.e. Compact Format). If you want more than 8 slots, then you would use an ACC14 adapter to attach the larger 36 mm round AFW-16-36R wheel, which has 16 slots. Since that's a large format wheel you'll need the SC-4 (i.e. Large Format).
