I have a FW8-8300 and tonight I opened it up because there was something on one of the filters, which I removed. In the process I rotated the filter carousel a bit. Then when I reassembled the filter, turned it back on, and connected it to CCDOps, the filter indicator in the bottom right says "unknown filter" and when I hit the calibrate/initialize button, it says "CFW motor timeout". When I try to select different filters, nothing happens. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting, unplugging it and plugging it back in again, but I still get the same errors. It's not a driver issue because it was working earlier tonight. Any help would be appreciated.
Jacob, Make sure not to plug and unplug the i2C port while the camera is powered or you can damage it. See page 1 of the manual. http://www.sbig.com/site/assets/files/1398/stf-8300_manual_12.pdf Sounds like your issue might be different. Bill monitors this list. Bill any suggestions?
How would I check? Also, in regard to Tim's post, I didn't remove the i2C port while the camera was still powered.
Can you take a high resolution picture of the insides of your filter wheel. It might be possible to spot a problem if it's something obvious. Otherwise it may have to go into Bill for service.
Looks normal. If you hot plugged the filter wheel, you may have blown the I2C fuse inside the camera. In that case, the camera would have to be sent in for repairs.
