Formerly, the fan on my AC2020 started when I powered up the camera, even before "connecting" in the software, I believe.

As of yesterday, I cannot get the fan to run at all. I made no changes to software settings, indeed, I didn't think it was even possible to disable the fan.

    Details / History:

2 nights ago, at the end of the observing session (fan running), I pressed "Warm Up" and left everything powered up and running. In the morning, the fan was not running, and I thought this was perhaps a result of the end of the Warm Up. (The camera is new, and I don't think I've used "Warm Up" and left it 8 hours before.)

I enabled cooling, but the fan did not start and the camera would not reach setpoint of -20. To debug this, I have disconnected in the software, cycled the power to the camera and restarted the software, "connected" in the software etc., and the fan still does not run (though the camera is reporting cooler status). I've tried "Auto fan speed" on and off (formerly it was on), fan speed High, Low, etc., to no avail. I tried "poking" the fan and it spins freely in either direction, with some oscillation as it comes to rest again.

Gary/Mark. Can you tell me the ambient temperature when the camera is started up and there is no fan?

I just finished testing a new camera at -20C ambient, and there is no case in which the fan should not be running. So if the fan is not running, I believe there is a problem.

That said, its probably best to send it in and we can get it corrected.

To send it in, please submit the following RMA contact form:

I was thinking about re-installing the firmware, unless you believe it would be pointless..

I reviewed the firmware code, and as far as I can tell the code cannot turn off the fan. (The hardware could... but the firmware doesn't do it.)

Doug, you were correct as I tried reinstalling V15 before I saw this and although it succeeded it had no effect.
I was looking for a way to check the voltage under full load…100% with fan running… but I could not find anywhere this is displayed. If it cannot be that either I will send it in for repair.

The camera does not measure the fan voltage.

The status LED on the camera's front panel gives a rough indication of input voltage level. Green means > 11.6V, red means < 10V, and otherwise amber.

I checked the light and it remained green at full fan and full cooler. I am requesting an RMA. Thanks for your help.
