This camera is mounted to a 24" RC at SRO and nearing completion of setup for remote use. As I've used SBIG cameras from the ST-7, ST-8E, STL-11000, and STX-16804 this is the 1st CMOS camera that I'm needing some understanding of the Gain settings. This also comes at a time where I'm using a ZWO CMOS at home so it's twice the confusion. I see with the ZWO camera I have both Gain and Offset to adjust. From what I'm gathering so far Gain is like ISO of a 35mm CMOS camera and if it follows the same path as ASA (for those who remember film) the higher the number the more sensitive the film but also noisier. Is this basically the same with Gain?

From a few online videos I see that offset is used to move the low end of the data range slightly away from the 0 range enough but not so far that you are sacrificing many pixels. So now it brings into play the issues with automated imaging with programs such as ACP and the many targets that may be in list. Finding a setting that will work for all targets seems possible but how to achieve that is questionable unless it's by exposure times. Is there a guide somewhere to explain the approach to calculating these values that doesn't require a Masters degree?

With the 3 hour difference between SRO and home I really don't want to be up all night trying to discover this by a lot of hit and miss. Some basic guidance would be very helpful. If it's already out there a push in the right direction would be very welcomed. The two cameras are AC4040BSI and the ZWO ASI6200MC Duo.
