I noticed a feature in the AllSky-340 software that is not explained in the manual. What does this "Chop Shutter at Night" button do exactly? And what is the benefit of enabling it?
I'm not certain... if I had to guess, it will chop any recorded meteor trails so you can measure the speed of the meteor.
Huh, interesting. What about the "force continuous images at night"? That's also not explained in the manual. I'm curious how it determines when it's night.
I have a very quick look at the software source code. It appears to cause images to happen back-to-back instead of having a 60 second delay between exposures. I have no idea what the "at night" part is. It might be that the function is only useful "at night", but I don't immediately see any code to enforce that. This software is no longer under active support, so we're not really in a position to answer detailed questions about it.
