I know - I've seen a few threads about this and have tried a bunch of the various fixes suggested. I am running Maxim 6.30, with a ST8xme camera. The camera shows up in the devices list as SBIG USB Camera with firmware. But when I try to attach the camera in Maxim I get the "Error 27" dialog. I know the camera is working because I can attach to Maxim on my desktop. Any help would be much appreciated!

    TIA,
    Mike Potter

So, here's a bit more info.

It seems that there are multiple drivers on the computer?? Not that savvy to know what is actually going on, but I can get the camera to connect if I use a specific USB port on the computer. When I do so, then go to the device manager and look at the driver version it shows version 2.42.0.2. This appears to work just fine. On every other USB port it shows driver version 2.76.0.0 - this does not work. Recommendations appreciated! I have no clue why one port would work and others not.

    Disconnect the camera.
Launch the SBIG Driver Checker. Click Help/About. It should be 4.05. If not, remove the drivers from within Driver Checker, uninstall it via control panel.
What verison of Windows? e.g. Windows 11 Pro 22H2 ?

    Go into Device Manager.
    View... Show Hidden Devices.
Right click and Uninstall every SBIG device you see, and if it offers to remove the driver, check the box to agree.
    Reboot.

Download the 4.05 version from our main website.
    Install the drivers.
    Plug in camera.
    Check device manager.
All should be good after 30 seconds - it is a two-step process of adding the device - it will see something, then re-enumerate it, and then will show an SBIG camera.

    Thanks Colin,

I'm running Windows 10 pro, all updates installed.

So, after reading your instructions I went into the device manager, and into Hidden Devices. There I found two lists of SBIG devices - one list which contained only devices with driver version 2.41.0.2, the other list only contained devices with driver version 2.76.0.0. I just deleted all of the devices from the second list and all is well! Thanks a million for your help. I very much appreciate you guys supporting nearly 20-year old hardware!
