    Hi,

I've recently re-commenced imaging after moving my equipment. I just took my first images with the Ha filter, and found, to my horror, that the Ha images looked identical to the L images (and pretty much like the R, G and B images). Since the target is M81, there should be very little signal through the Ha filter, obviously. So I'm now wondering what filter is in each slot.

Is there any way to check which filter is in which slot (or, indeed, if any filter is in a slot) without taking the camera/filter wheel/AO apart?

I am imaging with the STX Ultimate Package.

    Thanks.

Sounds like the wheel might not be turning? First step would be to listen while you command it to rotate. If it doesn't then check that the cable is plugged in properly.

Please note that the wheel or camera can be damaged if you "hot plug" the connector. Make sure the camera is powered down before connecting/disconnecting cables.

Thanks, Doug. Would there not be an error message if the wheel isn't turning?

Most likely, but we should start by ruling out the obvious.

Another simple thing to check - make sure the filter wheel is configured properly in Setup.

Yeah, that was the first thing I checked. I'll ask the guys at SRO to check if the filter wheel is turning.

    User error. Of course. :)

I had set it up in Maxim with "CFW-8." The filter wheel would home, but not rotate (hence no error message, I guess). The guys at SRO changed that to "standard," and it now rotates just fine.

    Thanks.

Aha! It’s always the simple stuff that gets you.
