This is an updated post that I put on the SBIG Yahoo site. I'm having a strange problem that I wonder if anyone has seen or knows about. To keep it short I won't go into every try this-try that step that got me to where I am, so here's what is going on. I have an STF 8300M and I use a Win7 Lenovo i5 64 bit laptop to run the camera etal. Starting Saturday night no program can find/connect to the camera even though "SBIG64 with firmware" shows up in Device Manager. I've tried Sequence Generator Pro, CCDSoft, and CCDOPS. I have removed and reinstalled updated drivers(the last time per Jan Soldan's instructions on this forum) and the only possible difference that I may see/hear is that the shutter clicks, but no link is established. I can run the camera on an old XP laptop and on my Win7/64 desktop. Maybe it's not important, but if I remove the USB cable from the Lenovo while the camera is running and plug it into the XP machine, the XP won't connect to it either unless I shut down the camera and restart it. Once I do that I can unplug and plug in the camera while it's running and it works fine (on XP). It seems like the Lenovo scrambles something and the camera has to restart to clear it up (or maybe it's because the XP is 32 bit?). Also when it's on the Lenovo and showing up in the Device Manager the SBIGDriverChecker64 can't find it when I click the "Get Firmware Version from Camera" button. I get the clicking shutter, but it just sits there saying it's "establishing a link" I am able to use other USB devices on these ports - mouse and scanner. I have not tried my SSAG or GCUSB, but they were working when the problem showed up. I'm about to the point of wiping out the Lenovo and reinstalling Windows and everthing, but I'd really hate to have to do something that drastic. It doesn't look like I'll have clear skies until Friday or Saturday so I have a few days to resolve this.
By Tuesday no machine would recognize the camera. I contacted Bill Lynch - he says it may be a scrambled EEPROM. I'm sending it in for a look.
I would think twice! since I already sent it for a second time, for exactly identical issue, he and Tim check it via Teamviewer, he made me pay for the shipping twice. I have been on this since february. Now they want me to contact Jan Soldan, but he isn't here since march 31. what a deal!
Your camera has been out of service since February? So what do they do to it when you send it in? Did it work at all either time you got it back? Did they look at it on your computer via Teamviewer? When did they do that, before or after you sent it in? Who is Jan Soldan, why do they want you to contact him?
neither work when got back. teamviewer happened after second time. Jan Soldan is the driver writter. according to bill and tim is a driver issue. but jan hasnt been in the forum since march 31
mark, I just updated ccdops to the latest version 5.57 and at least was able to connect it. please check your version
I have a friend with an STF8300C who is coming over today. He's bringing his cam and two laptops. We'll try my cam on his laptops and vice versa. I am glad to hear that you're making some headway on your issue.
"I already sent it for a second time, for exactly identical issue, he and Tim check it via Teamviewer, he made me pay for the shipping twice. Now they want me to contact Jan Soldan, but he isn't here since march 31. what a deal! " Galaxy, I apologize for and am unhappy that you are dissatisfied with the service you've received regarding the connection problems you've been having. I can't help but feel compelled to clarify and perhaps explain the chain of events described in the sentences above. It's a minor point, but both Tim and I did not check it via TeamViewer. Just wanted to be clear about that. As for the return shipping charges, the only reason I would ask someone to pay the return shipping in a situation like this is because the camera showed no signs of failure with my setup. The camera would have connected and took proper images while it was in my shop. Gosh, there are establishments out there that would charge an evaluation fee along with the return shipping. The reason you were referred to Jan is because this is his area of expertise. If I could help you with drivers and computer issues, I would. The attempt was to get you to the people who could help. I wasn't aware that he's been away this month, perhaps he's taking vacation. There are a couple of notes pinned to this forum on how to load drivers. Have you seen "How to Install SBIG Driver" in the General section of SBIG Products? I believe there is also information in the FAQ area. Again, please accept my apologies for your dissatisfaction. Our intentions are you assist you in the best way is possible. -Bill
My friends cam works on my laptop and his. Mine doesn't work on either. It's going West. I hope it's only the EEPROM.
Thanks Bill, The problem was on our side, All the software need an update, everything working fine now.
