FW7-stx wheel, seven slot. I am using four filters, LRGB in slots 1,3,5,7 to space the heavy filters out. Is it OK with this wheel to use slots 1,2,3,4 and leave the rest empty or is this unbalanced and not recommended? Apparently having an empty slot with no filter causes some issues with some software programs. The empty slots do have names, there is no filter in the slot.

    Thanks,

You could name the in-between blank filters something like "B1" "B2"...
Are you using spent-Uranium filters again?

Funny...no they are lead filters. Anyways, I read somewhere that spacing the filters out for weight/balance was good if all seven positions are not used. I'm asking if this is not such a concern, and the filters can be in slots 1,2,3,4. ACP's focus offset assumes sequential filters and it didn't like this...

I have the empty slots names no, not, and never.

    Thanks,

Should not be an issue - the filter wheel is pretty robust, and is going to be in different orientations as it moves around the sky.
You can always add more filters to balance it out ;-) assuming infinite available budget
