I couldn't find the dimensions of the STXL self-guiding filter wheel on the product page. Does anyone have these available? In addition to the package dimensions, I would like to know how much an attached lens is displaced relative to the sensor by inserting the filter wheel (so I know the effect on the lens magnification), in case that's different from the package thickness.
I've made a quick-and-dirty PDF for you. Please note that the front lid of the camera is removed completely, and the filter wheel replaces it. So that part of the wheel does not add to the back focus.
Thanks Doug! So the backfocus increases by 1.638" (without any filter loaded), if I am reading your drawing correctly?
I just realized that I got my guiding terminology backwards: I meant to ask about the FW8S-STXL, which I expect is thinner?
Good thing you asked the question... I decided to go look at the drawing for the STXL front lid. It is 1.320" thick. So the correct answer is: 1.638 + 1.120 - 1.320 = 1.168" (ignoring filters). And now I have to redo this for the non-guided version lol. Stand by.
The standard (non-guided) filter wheel cover is 0.755" tall. The guided filter wheel cover is 1.428" tall. So the difference is 0.673". Going back to the previous calculation, the additional back focus is 1.168 - 0.673 = 0.495". Also, please see: http://diffractionlimited.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/backfocus.993x0.gif
