I use MPO Connections on a Windows 7 32 bit operating system computer to control a SBIG STL1001-E CCD. The computer is farther than 15 feet from the telescope and CCD and cannot be moved closer. Therefore it is necessary to use a long USB connector with signal enhancement along the way. I understand that this situation is less than ideal but the layout of the observatory building absolutely prevents moving computer and telescope closer together. When I turn on the link between the computer and the CCD, in normal operation link to both CCD sensor and filter wheel is completed within two seconds. In the past few weeks, and with increasing frequency, link to the CCD sensor requires about 6 seconds and link to the filter wheel is not achieved at all. In this mode, temperature control, exposure time, and mode (dark or light) can all be controlled. But the filter wheel remains in its default position (blue) in which the sensor has such low sensitivity that it is unusable for my research. Unplugging the USB cable from the CCD and replugging it sometimes restores normal operation as explained above. Sometimes this must be done multiple times. Sometimes turning all the equipment off, waiting about 15 minutes, and restarting will achieve normal operation. Perhaps a loose wire inside the CCD linking to the filter wheel is responsible. Or perhaps it is all in the wiring. Does anyone have any suggestions on a fix?

The STL-series cameras are USB 1.1 - very slow interfaces, and they do not have memory buffers - data is read out line by line in real time.
You could try using a powered USB hub in between. eg Startech makes some.
Try connecting the camera directly to the computer with a short cable - eg 2m / 6 feet, and test if that works.
If it does, then it is your network extender that is the problem.
Consider a PrimaLuce Labs EAGLE 4 computer that can be mounted on the telescope.
