Yes, you do have to create a new account. The old Freshdesk accounts cannot be transferred over. To get assigned "Customer" status so you can get software technical support, click right at the top of the main page, "How do I get technical support?" For SBIG products this is not currently necessary. Not too many hardware pirates out there...
I'm puzzled why the Diffraction didn't recognize my email when I tried to log in. I had to create a new account. That's not a problem, but I wonder if I can access the section that says something like registered customer only. -- Joe
