I apologize if this was already covered but was wondering how SBIG was handling this discontinuation of the affected CCD sensors which was announced by ON Semiconductor and when would be the date of the last orders accepted for these? Thanks Dave
Our announcement is at http://diffractionlimited.com/news/semiconductor-ccd-retirement/ We are organizing a supply of sensors that should be sufficient for 2020. We have to lock that down in March. Of course we can only guess at how many we will actually need, so if you want one don't wait until next December! There will unfortunately be some price increases because ON Semi also raised their sensor prices. For the moment we're holding the line on STF-8300 and STX-16803 pricing, but the other STF models and one STXL model have already gone up. The popular Aluma SONY and E2V models are of course unaffected. We were already moving beyond ON Semi CCDs. You can look forward to a couple of new models launching soon - the first batch is being manufactured right now. A third new model will also be announced at the same time, and more are coming.
