I just acquired an STT-8300 with the FW8G-STT filter wheel. When I plug the HDMI cable into the camera my images go black (not like a dark frame), unplug it and back to normal. I've checked to make sure the filter wheel is operating properly, and I am getting a signal from the guide camera. I've run the SBIG Driver Checker and tried running the camera in CCDOPS but no luck.

Note: To get to this point and possibly the source of the problem, I had to try Nebulosity, NINA and Sequence Generator Pro (downloaded the API guide camera drive for SBIG cameras) all in an effort to guide with PHD2.

I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The FW8G-STT has two completely separate electronics components. The filter wheel portion is fully independent of the guide camera portion.

The guide camera hardware in the STT-8300 does share components with the main chip. So if you're losing the image when plugging in the HDMI cable, something is probably shorting out.

Most likely this is a cabling issue. Inspect the connectors on both ends of the HDMI cable, including the connector in the STT and the connector in the FW8G. Make sure they aren't damaged. Try replacing the HDMI cable with another high quality short HDMI cable. (Don't use a cheap one!)

Thanks again Doug. I took an HDMI cable off one of the TV's and that's the problem. Boy, do I feel dumb.
