I've noticed that while guiding, if you are not taking an exposure with the main camera the guide shutter opens and closes for each guide exposure. Once you start an exposure with the main camera the guide camera shutter stays open while guiding, once the image with the main camera has completed the guide camera starts opening and closing again for each guide exposure. Is this normal behavior?
