In order to save cables that drag on the back of my scope, I was thinking of running my STX16803 and my SC-3 from the same 12 volt, 15 Amp power supply. Can I use a switching power supply for this?

    Yes.

If you are doing custom wiring, just make very sure to wire the polarity correctly. I strongly recommend testing the power connections with everything else disconnected from the camera - that way if it's backwards you don't risk shorting 12V to ground through the camera chassis. It is especially important to unplug the USB cable.
