Does the guide chip have the same focal length as the main camera? If not what is it?

Cameras don't have focal lengths. They do have a pixel size. And in the case of the FW8G-STXL, there is a focal reducer in the assembly.

Are you talking about an STL or an STXL?

I thought there might be a focal reducer involved. I have an SBIG STXL 11002 on a 2939 focal length telescope. What would the focal reducer bring the focal length down to for the guide chip?

The self-guiding wheel incorporates a 0.7X focal reducer for the guide camera.

I assume this means my guide chip focal length is 0.7 x 2939mm or 2057.

    Sorry to be so ignorant.
