Hi, after a couple of years not using the old 10XME I wish now to reactivate it. However, after installing new drivers as well as CCDops 5.x it does not work. The fan is on, but that´s it. Neither in MaximDL nor in CCDOps any reaction. I am using Windows 10. How can I tackle this? Many thanks in advance, Wolfgang

    Some things to check:
    1. Do you have the latest SBIG Driver Checker and CCDOps 5.66 ?
    Go here:
    https://diffractionlimited.com/legacy-product-support/
Under Legacy Software Downloads, USB Port Cameras, you will find a link for both programs.
    Install them both.

    2. If the Red LED does not flash quickly on power up, then this means the camera is not being initialized.
So check Windows Device Manager - do you see an SBIG USB Camera with Firmware ?
    Like this:
    ST10XME_DevMgr.png
If not, then the problem is likely that the drivers did not install.

If you see a device with an error or unknown device, you may be able to get the drivers to install.
I recommend disconnecting the USB of the camera, then run SBIG Driver Checker.
Update. Tell it to NOT check the internet, and that way it will use the local copy of the drivers.
Then go through the install process.
Plug in the camera, and that should do it.

    3. If the Red LED is on solid and the fan is running, then it should work fine.
    Run the SBIG Driver Checker.
    Firmware tab.
    Get firmware version from camera.
You should get a message like this:
    sbig_driver_found_camera.png
This means the PC and drivers are talking to the camera.
If it gives an error, then you've either got a hardware or device driver problem.

    4. Could be a bad USB cable or port.
    Change cables.
Change to a different USB port on the computer.
Try a USB 2.0 port or a USB 2.0 hub plugged into a USB3.0 port.
Most USB 3.0 ports will work with this old USB 1.1 device.
Try a port that is not shared with other devices on the same USB bus.
A couple of customers with "off-brand" hardware reported this solved the issue.

    Good luck.
If it is truly a hardware failure, then contact @Bill for assistance: bill (at) sbig (dot) com

Many thanks, Colin. Steps 1-3 are fine, camera shows red light and fan is running. Driver update says that all drivers are up to date. Meaning there is a connection between PC and camera..
However, when CCDOps 5.66 is running, on "grap", e.g. the system is "thinking", and after a few seconds CCDOps collapses. MaxinDL does not open the camera window if the camera is running, once disconnected it opens, however, then re-connected it shows this "27" error message. I tried three different cables and ports, all failed. However, at some stage I could make a few pictures yesterday, for whatsoever reasons, but never could repeat it.
    Best regards,
    Wolfgang

Dear Colin, many thanks, I tried everything, but failed... However, I then changed horses, i.e. I used another PC and here it worked!!
    Thanks for all your support!
    Many thanks Wolfgang

Dear Colin, as the ST-10XME is now able to run, I would like to use Maxim DL for it instead of CCDOps. However, MaximDL is installed on the PC, where the camera is not running. How can I Transfer a copy of MaximDL to my other laptop?
    Many thanks,
    Wolfgang

    To transfer MaxIm DL Pro:
Find your license email that came from our "websales@cyanogen.com".
You may wish to copy it's contents using CTRL-A to select all, and CTRL-C to copy. Then paste into notepad. Save the notepad file onto a USB memory stick.
On the old PC, copy the MaxIm folder onto a USB memory stick. Then copy this onto the new PC.
The folder is usually somewhere like:
    C:\Users\YOURNAMEHERE\Documents\MaxIm DL 6

On the old PC, in MaxIm, Help... Check for Updates.
This will take you to a web page that has a download button.
Download the program and save it to the USB memory stick.
Carry the USB stick over to the new PC.
    Restore the MaxIm folder.
    Install the program.
    Use the license information.

Many thanks, Problem is, that under HELP (e.g. for updates etc.) there is no Response or any action (actually never worked).

Dear Colin, now I can Focus on the next step: as I wished to use my Canon objectives, I need an adapter to connect my ST-10XME to it. Where can I get it from?
    Best

SBIG never made an adapter for the ST and STL cameras to use Canon lenses. There was a Nikon adapter.
You might be able to make something or find something on Amazon.
Be aware that there are Canon to M42 adapters, but these are M42 x 1mm for Pentax screw thread, not M42 x 0.75mm T-Thread as used on the ST10.
    Good luck.

Ah, many thanks, Colin, in particular for the helpful data on the M42 x 0.75mm T-thread! :)
