    Hi Colin,

I haven't used my STF 8300M for two years, it's been sitting in its case. I took it out today to test and it all appeared to work just fine, other than that the cooler never quite settles down. For example, if I set it to -10°, it alternates between -9.79° and -10.20° but never seems to settle between these. Same behavior with different set points.

I don't recall it behaving like that in the past and I'm not sure how big a problem it is. I'm in the process now of baking the desiccant plug which I didn't do before testing. Could that have something to do with it?

In any case, would be grateful for any comments or suggestions from you.

    Thank you,
    Stanley Fertig

It's a pretty tiny difference and not worth worrying about. Do check that the fan is clean and unobstructed.
Baking the desiccant should be done PRIOR to cooling the camera down if it sat for a long while.
For next time, do the desiccant before setting it to a temperature where frost could have formed on the sensor.

Thank you Colin, got it! That's reassuring.

That amount of variation was completely normal on my ST-8300

The temperature readout on the STF is relatively low precision, but it regulates better than what you see.
