    Hi,

I'm french astronomer and I've need to update the firmware of my STF-8300M to correct some issues. Unfortunately, the update has been unsuccessful and my SBIG is not recognized any more on my laptop :(

Is the only way is to send back her in USA, SBIG service ?
Maybe a french reseller can do the work for SBIG ?

    Thank you for your reply,
    Best regards,
    Pierre-Laurent

Does anything at all show up in your "Device Manager" when you plug the camera into USB? Have you tried a different computer?

I am not aware of any European repair services. The only one authorized by us is Bill Lynch:

    Thanks for your reply.
My SBIG is only recognized like "unknown device" on my laptop...

I'll send an e-mail to Bill Lynch for shipping to him my camera.

    Have a good day.

You could try to manually select the driver for the unknown device. Sometimes it is able to identify it.

Open your Device Manager and locate the "Unknown Device". Right click on it and select "Update Driver Software". Click "Browse my computer for driver software". On the next window click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" (You will need to ensure you have the very latest version of SBIGDriverChecker64.exe installed and the drivers are completely up to date.) Next "Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware" and select "SBIG USB-64 Camera with Firmware" as the driver.

You might also try a new USB cable, and make sure that the cable is making a good connection at the camera. In the past I have had problems with the USB connector at the camera and it would show up as an unknown device in the device manager and I could not connect to it. Cleaning and spreading the contacts in the USB plug helped.
