I have been using 2 STL-11000 cameras for a good number of years and as of 2 nights ago the one at home started having issues connecting. I noticed that my ACP run had gone on all night as expected but when the shutdown script was run it had failed at warming the chip prior to complete shutdown and just got hung. It actually wasn't conneceted at that point anymore. I tried a few things which all failed at a normal connection to the camera but each time the USB cable was plugged in it would report unknown USB device. I changed USB cables, active extenders, USB ports.....no difference. I tried with and without the filter wheel lead connected to the camera. Nothing worked. Updating drivers did nothing. At near panic of losing a camera I went into my office, retrieved my laptop and attempted to connect with that. As soon as I plugged in the USB cable it reported Windows was looking for the drivers. SBIG Updater was already installed and I let it run. After a few minutes it had loaded both drivers and the camera was connected.

I took the USB cable off the laptop and back into the USB port on the computer and was able to just connect to the already opened MaxIm program. Just to be sure it was OK I disconnected several times and then reconnected without issue. Then I rebooted the system and ran the startup script connecting and powering the system as normal making connections as it went and that worked. I had assumed that the issue was resolved. Yes I know the assume saying.......

So last night the system started up and connected successfully. ACP ran the telescope taking 2-30 minute 03 images ending at 7:56pm and nothing the rest of the night. Around 4am this morning I got up and checked and nothing else had imaged but I had the same camera issue with not being able to reconnect, no temperature control, and basically dead.

Open for suggestions. I do have a NUC that is almost ready for the transfer of the equipment to a 12' dome but was holding off till that transfer was done but I can install the roll off roof software and install it now. camera error.PNG

That was the 1st check I did. I didn't expect to see any changes as the camera had become more reliable after those changes were made some time back (months). None had changed. And even then it was affecting only the guide camera and not the STL. Turns out to be far simpler than I was expecting. Seems the extender came unplugged from the camera USB cable....a reroute of the temporary cable and some stress release should prevent that from happening again. Wish I had seen that last night........Bad assumption on my part but unrelated to the 1st event altogether. That was either hardware and/or driver related. From the hardware side it could have been an issue with the camera and/or filter wheel I guess but that's more your call on that. The C has the 8 position external filter wheel.

Setting up for some panel flats and new darks so it will run for a good 4-5 hours easily and we'll see if anything happens. I'll post back either way.

We always get the blame for USB connectors coming off. :)

Let us know if you have any further problems.
