Is the ethernet port on the STX16200 camera a Digital terminal equipment (DTE) or Digital circuit terminating device (DCE) device?

Also, is there an upgrade to the camera for USB3.0?

The Ethernet standard IEEE 802.3 doesn't differentiate between DCE and DTE, so there is no technical difference.

Generically, DCE generally refers to switches and communications gear, and DTE refers to terminal equipment such as PCs and your camera.

There is no USB 3.0 upgrade for STX / STXL cameras, nor is there any reason to offer it. The download speed of these cameras is limited by the CCD sensor; they would not benefit from USB 3.0 speeds.

Our newer STC and Aluma AC cameras offer USB 3.0 interfaces, since their CMOS sensors are capable of higher speeds. These cameras are also USB 2.0 compatible, which can be important in an observatory since it supports longer cable lengths than USB 3.0.

Hi Doug, help me out on one more point. Within the STX/STXL cameras, does your Ethernet chip automatically cross over the transmit/receive lines in relation to the receiver? Normally one would use a straight through Ethernet connector if you have a DCE to DTE communication setup, or in the case of DCE to DCE or DTE to DTE you would need a cross over cable.

You need a cross-over cable if you are going direct between camera and older PCs that can't reconfigure their 100-BASE-T port. Otherwise use an ethernet switch / hub and standard wiring. The camera doesnt have the ability to reconfigure its NIC media interface.
