A while back I noticed that my camera, which achieves -65C of thermoelectric cooling, would not cool the chip to lower than -35C. Doug indicated that there are reasons for this that involve the hardware. Since I have been asked about this on a couple occasions, I'd like to know the reasons, and if it the case for other model/brand cameras. I'm not here to argue; I just have a curiosity as to why the limit is -35C. Thanks.

Thanks, Doug. I suppose I should have posted this query in the camera forum rather than the MaxIm forum. I'm aware of some cameras being cooled with liquid Nitrogen and such, but it sounds like there's no advantage to that level of cooling in this case.

Liquid nitrogen is sometimes used for back-illuminated sensors, which have no RBI but have high dark current.
