    Hi all,

This year our air cooled STXL-16803 stopped reading reliably when the air temperature was below freezing. We would get incomplete images, though power cycles would eventually get it working and once it started it would continue reliably. We have zero problem if the air temperature stays above 0C. The temperature border is so sharply defined by freezing I feel like there has to be a distinct cause.

I also feel like we used to not have to worry about temperature during observations.

We're in the process of trying to get a new camera, but we need this one to soldier on for at least one more year.

    Any advice?

    Cheers,

    Jeff

The exact 0C thing sounds... weird. The camera electronics should be self-warming enough that the effect wouldn't occur at precisely 0C.

Make sure you aren't getting frost in the chamber. That can cause electrical problems with the sensor.

Other than that, maybe a corroded contact somewhere?

We do still have repair parts available for these cameras, if you want to send it in.

(If/when you do end up retiring the camera... I might be interested in the sensor. I kinda miss my STX... if we had a sensor we could piece a camera together from engineering parts.)
