I have been struggling to find a USB to CAT 6 converter to run my SBIG 8300, guide scope and mount. I had been using a simple powered 100 ft USB extension cable (with a full weekend behind the wall installation project). After a year of good operation the cable degraded and would cause about 10% of the images to not download and then freeze up the MaximDL software. My desire is to use a USB to Ethernet converter as I have installed cabling with CAT6 throughout the home and to the telescope location. I have purchased a few USB2.0 powered devices, one low end and another high end (iogear USB 2.0 4-Port BoostLinq Ethernet) and find only the guide scope will operate normally but the SBIG 8300 will not operate. I purchased a USB to wifi converter and find it to work well with a simple driver installation, however, the download speed is too slow for focusing or high cadence images. Any successful product recommendations for USB to Ethernet? As I have struggled with this for a while and just make due with a short USB extension through the window. As I assume many people would connect to their hardware via Ethernet, I am surprised that I can't find others who have posted the same question. Winter is fast approaching, greatly appreciate anyone's help.

We have the STT-8300M camera, it has both USB & Ethernet options. We didn't like the download speeds we were getting using Ethernet. So we purchased this: http://www.icron.com/products/icron-brand/usb-extenders/cat5/usb-2-0-ranger-2201/

It was a little pricey, about $315.00. But we do like it and are happy with our connections & download speeds. We running about 45 ft from PC to camera. We only used CAT5E cabling, so shouldn't have any problems with CAT6 cables. But probably wouldn't get CAT6 speeds out of it.
