I am contemplating using a Parallax mount on a pier and wonder if the pier will be adequate. The mount is about 150# (see attachment of mount next to a G-11). The pier is 8" (203mm) diameter and 35" (890mm) tall, solid construction of 1/4" (6.35mm) thick steel. The scope is a 70#, 305mm optic with overall length of 22" (560mm). The setup is shielded from the wind so the system has only to deal with moving the scope + camera gear. Would the pier perform "good enough" with the above combo? Changing the pier is a none-starter. Thanks for any insight, Tim
I would think so. It's certainly going to hold the weight - 1/4" thick pipe is reasonably robust. As long as it has solid anchor points it should be fine.
I was just thinking since the base plate is 12"x12" and fits on the smaller pier one ould offset the mount on the pier so the weight of the mount + scope + weights are balanced on the pier. Anyway, may have a go of this. Thanks!
