Hello, need your help to fix a problem with the focusing of my STX Guider. Currently I'm trying to focus the STX giuider without success. The optical scheme is: -ODK 16" -FLI ATLAS FOCUSER - STX GUIDER - SBIG AO - SBIG 16803 - STX Guider configured in MaximDl as "external remote" With the atlas focuser the SBIG 16803 is perfectly on focus while I'm not able to focus the STX Guider. Do you have any suggestion to help me? Thanks a lot
You are seeing out-of-focus stars on the guider? Or are you just having trouble finding a bright enough star? Sometimes that can be a challenge. One trick I have used is to get the moon on the guide chip. Hard target to miss! That helps you figure out where the guide chip is relative to the main camera, which makes it easier to find good guide stars. You can also use the limb of the moon to get an approximate focus.
Dear Doug, Many thanks for your kind reply and help. The problem I have is that it seems that I cannot reach good enough even to be able to recingnize the stars but for sure I will try with the method you suggest. Is it correct to set the STX guider as “external remote” in maxim DL? Thank you so much again
Try pointing at a large cluster, so you have a high probability of bright star in the guider field. That will help. Just to be clear - you've mounted the STX guider to the FW7-STX filter wheel?
Hello Doug, Thank you so much again for your kind help... The optical scheme is : ODK flattener-stxguider-Sbig AO- FW7 filter wheel-sbig16803. Aleredu tried you suggestion about the cluster (M13) but no result....
M13 is rather compact. Try something rather larger - a compact open cluster perhaps. Something that would give a dense starfield across the entire illuminated aperture of the telescope.
