IIRC they were used as spacers in the filter slots. From the look of your wheel photo, I think there are some still installed.
As long as it is still sealed in the plastic pouch, you should be able to plug it right into the camera.
Just make sure they don't hit something. I know it's the taller lid because it's self-guiding, but make sure it clears the guider assembly.
