    Hello,
I have a really strange problem:
I bought a used ST 8300M which only conects to USB 3 ports. On these it works really perfect, Nina and so on really perfect. The problem is, that I will have to use it on a USB 2 Device.
I really tried everything, powered USB-Hubs and so on, different Laptops and Computers (I tried 4!) and different ports - no chance! Only direct on a USB 3 port. It can not be a driver problem, because on the USB 2 ports it appears nothing in the Hardware-Manager (like unknown device and similar). The Test-Computers where build from 2012 to 2019 with Windows 7 to 10.
I hope anyone can help me.
Thank you very much in advanced!
    Peter

I also tried Raspberry Pi and Device-Server, no chance...

This can be a driver problem, operating system corruption, a bad cable or port, or hardware failure.
    Usual fix:
Power off and Disconnect the camera USB cable from the computer.
Run the SBIG Driver Checker. Uninstall the drivers.
    Go into the Device Manager.
View..Show Hidden Devices. (You didn't say what operating system you have - some older ones require an Environment String Setting to make this possible).
Right Click on any SBIG devices and Uninstall them.
Once you have done that, Uninstall the SBIG Driver Checker.
Delete the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\SBIG\Driver Checker 64
Make sure to delete any subdirectories.
Power off the PC and restart it.
Download the latest version of SBIG Driver Checker - version 4.05 here:
    https://diffractionlimited.com/legacy-product-support/
    or directly:
    https://cdn.diffractionlimited.com/downloads/SetupDriverChecker64.exe
    Install it, then run it.
    Update the drivers.
    It should report version 5.1.1.0
    Quit driver checker.

    Launch Device Manager.
    Plug the camera in.
It should take several seconds to find the camera and install the drivers.
    Wait perhaps 30 seconds.
    It may install additional drivers.
    Wait.
The camera should be listed in the device manager.

    Good luck!

    Hello Colin,
Thank you for reply. I already tested all that and more. The ST 8300M of a friend shows the exact same behavior. So I am pretty sure it is a firmware issue. Will there be an update?
    Best regards
    Peter

No, there are no updates, that is a long dead product that was replaced by the STT-8300, STF-8300, and then the Aluma CCD8300.

Check the computer manufacturer for BIOS and driver updates; Check the Intel Driver and Support Utility if it has an Intel processor, or the AMD equivalent.
Try using a powered USB 2.0 hub like a Startech 7200 between the computer and camera (you may have tried that already).
Generally, the camera works or it doesn't.
You might contact the seller in case there was an issue with it that they didn't share with you.

OK, the main thing is that the camera works on a modern PC. I really appreciate that you still offer support and driver for so long time!!
So thank you very much to you and your team!!
